EMPHASIS IN DATABASE DESIGN


Program Length

This program offers 39 semester credit hours.

Program Description

The program in database design and implementation offers an introduction a fundamental overview of the values, concepts, principles, skills and techniques of modern database management systems. Students will be introduced with broad concepts for querying relational databases. This program includes a broad introduction of Structured Query Language for databases. Students also will be introduced to technologies that use industry standard scripting languages to connect databases to web sites.

Work Places

Work places include businesses in the public and private sectors, including for profit and not for profit organizations. The specific duties as entry level Database Designer—a person with application development skills, responsible for the design, implementation, maintenance and repair of an organization’s database— will often vary from office to office due to office size, location, and specialty.

Professional Preparation

Specific program objectives are designed to provide graduates with an understanding of broad concepts for designing, implementing, maintaining and querying relational databases. The graduate of this program will be introduced to technologies that use industry standard scripting languages to connect databases to web sites. Professional preparation will include the ability to apply object-oriented side of database-driven web sites and how to use objects and classes in web programming.
